Authorities say firefighters and officers rushed into a southwestern Michigan home to rescue a person who set the home on fire.
Officers responded Friday morning in St. Joseph and were told that he had cut a gas line in the house and poured gasoline throughout the home. St. Joseph police say people were evacuated from nearby homes as authorizes tried to get him to come out safely.
Police say that after about two hours he set fire to the house while on a video call with a negotiator. Firefighters and officers quickly got him out. He was conscious and alert when taken to a hospital for evaluation.
Officers from the Berrien County sheriff's office, state police, the Lincoln Township fire department and others also were involved in the rescue.
