Police boosting patrols ahead of Thanksgiving holiday

There won't just be a rush of last minute shoppers on the day before Thanksgiving on the road this year.

Expect to see a lot more police out and about as part of an effort to crack down on drunk driving over the holiday season. The Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign runs from November 22 through December 10.

Police are boosting patrols in every part of the state in hopes of driving down the number of arrests, accidents and deaths that happen every year around Thanksgiving.

“We’re encouraging everyone to pause and do a 360-degree assessment of how they plan to get home safely–before they begin to drink,” said Michael L. Prince, director of the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Patrol. “Before you leave for a night out, consider these questions: How will you get there? How will you get home? Who is coming along?”
