INGHAM CO., Mich. — Friday morning, a man killed two women that were former acquaintances of his, police say.
Ingham County Sheriff Scott Wriggelsworth, Eaton County Sheriff Tom Reich, and Meridian Township Police Chief Ken Plaga held a joint conference to release the details.
The suspect, who lives in Delta Township but is from Chicago, Illinois, went to the home of a third person around 2:40 a.m. and banged on her door, asking to be let in.
The woman did not let him in.
This was at the 5300 block of Mall Drive West.
She contacted the police and told them that she had received text messages from the suspect that said “he loved her so he spared her, and she would know what that meant soon.” The suspect also texted he “had been ridding the demons of some dear friends of his.”
In about an hour, the police located the suspect's vehicle on I-69 near Otto Road and made a traffic stop.
He was arrested on some outstanding warrants.
When police located the 26-year-old man, police say that he showed them his phone with pictures of two women that were deceased.
After getting the addresses, police did a welfare check on the women.
They found a 26-year-old white female deceased at the 4400 block of Doncaster in Holt, and a 32-year-old white female dead at the 2700 block of E. Grand River from Williamston.
They are not releasing the names until next of kin can be notified.
Wriggelsworth said that both died from blunt force trauma.
Police also said that the man had two more victims that he intended to go after. Police have notified those women and they are safe.
The suspect is now in custody and in jail so there is no further threat to the public.
Wriggelsworth said that the "quick capture saved many lives." He added that they "got a bad guy, off the streets" who was on a "killing spree."
Neighbors react
Neighbors of the 26-year-old woman in Delhi Township said they didn't know her personally, but are still shocked by her death all the same.
"She just always walked up to the trash or stand in front of her doorway. She didn't really say hi to nobody or talk to anybody," said Cheyann Sandoin.
"We've never had any issues of violence here, so to hear it was a homicide and kind of to see some of the other details was frightening, really," said Marc Johnson.
