Police arrest retail fraud suspect after chase

A 70-year-old woman is behind bars for stealing from a retailer and running from police.

Deputies from the Jackson County Office of the Sheriff were dispatched to assist the Blackman-Leoni Department of Public Safety with a retail fraud that had just occurred at the Meijer on Airport Road, Blackman Township on Tuesday night.

Deputies located the suspect vehicle on Airport near Argyle Road and attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle just after 7:30 p.m. The driver refused to stop for several minutes.

Deputies successfully deployed spike strips on McCain Road near Robinson Road, Summit Township ending the pursuit.

The suspect was taken into custody without incident. A subsequent search of the vehicle recovered nearly $1,000 worth of stolen merchandise from Meijer and possibly other retail stores.

A 70 year old female from Jackson was arrested and lodged at the Jackson County Jail on a variety of charges including Retail Fraud and Fleeing & Eluding Police.
