JACKSON, Mich. — A man who Michigan State Police said may be a serial rapist is behind bars and they think he may have multiple victims who have yet to come forward.

They say William Anthony Akin, 37, of Spring Arbor Township, met his victims online.

Akin was arrested on June 26 on a 5-count warrant including criminal sexual conduct in the first degree.

Also, criminal sexual conduct in the 2nd, 2 counts of unlawful imprisonment, and malicious misuse of telecommunications services.

He is currently at the Jackson Co. Jail on a $500,000 bond.

The prosecution is saying that Akin approached victims online, using websites like "Plenty of Fish," and "Tagged." Akin has also alleged to use his full name, and Will, and Will Smith.

Police said Akin and the women met in person and two of the three victims were sexually assaulted and held against their will. In two of the cases, the women went into his home.

His previous convictions are for similar crimes to the ones he was arrested for last month. Harassment, criminal sexual conduct and home invasion. These all happened in Eaton and Jackson County between 2006 and 2008. Akin did spend some time in jail for them.

Detectives say they are doing a forensic analysis on some of the items removed from Akin's home.

Police are looking for anyone who may have had contact with Akin.

If anyone has any information about William Anthony Akin or who may have been approached by him online, please contact the Detective Bureau of the Michigan State Police, Jackson Post at 517-780-4580.

He is scheduled for a probable cause conference on July 3 at 3 PM.
