Don't get out those shovels and gardening tools just yet, Mother Nature is pushing back the planting season by about a week.

According to employees at Van Attas Greenhouse and Flower Shop, although it is April and the temperatures are unseasonably low, planting season doesn't start until mid-May.

However, if you have planted some flowers early, there are some things you can do to save them.

"If somebody has a pot of flowers outside, I'd bring it in at night. I'd bring it in if its going to be under 40 for sure. If you've planted it in the ground, it was probably done too early. You can try covering it but it really depends on what it is," manager Lisa Bashline said.

Make sure your soil is at a temperature of at least 45 degrees before you put anything in the ground. You can test it with a soil thermometer.
