JACKSON, Mich. — A number of individuals are getting calls from the Jackson County Health Department and Clinics such as Immunization and Women, Infants and Children (WIC) stating they have the person’s Social Security number and requesting verification or other personal information. Please understand that this is someone or an agency impersonating the Jackson County Health Department, Immunizations & WIC Clinics. On the calls that are not being answered, just the number of our clinics are showing up in the caller id information.

We believe this is a scam targeting the elderly to obtain sensitive information. Due to privacy reasons, the Health Department would NOT call and leave a message asking for health insurance information.

If you receive one of these calls and are unsure, please try to ask the caller to identify themselves and ask as much information as possible—ask for a name and number, and report it to the police by calling 911. Also, please do not provide any personal information such as your social security number to anyone over the telephone.

You can also call the main number at the Jackson County Health Department if you are unsure who that is on the other end of the line: 517-788-4420.
