Jackson County Sheriff Steven Rand could face a recall.
Rand was recorded making derogatory comments about women and minorities. The tapes were released as part of a lawsuit filed against him by Lt. Tommy Schuette. Rand admitted making the comments but told wilx.com he will not resign.
Dean Schuette, the father of Tommy Schuette, submitted a recall petition on September 19th. He cites Rand being a 'multifaced bigot, having made numerous slurs in the presence of many individuals, including blacks, gay's, women, Hispanics, overweight people and disabled peopled' as his reason for the recall.
A Sheriff can only be removed from office through a recall or by the Governor. The Jackson County Board of Commissioners has asked Governor Rick Snyder to remove him. The Governor's office and Attorney General's office are reviewing that request.
The State Board of Canvassers will review the recall petition on Monday, October 8. Stay with News 10 for updates.
