HOLT, Mich. (WSYM) -- Consumers Energy said thousands of people lost power statewide. Many communities woke up to damages and downed trees.
In Grand Haven, winds of 90 miles per hour left one 72 year old man dead after a tree reportedly fell on his house while he was asleep in his bed. Damages weren't as severe in Holt, but the outage is ruining weekend plans.
"We have a place on Lake Huron and we stay out there, and on the weekends, and I was supposed to leave here in a little while myself, but we're not going because I have to stay here and baby sit the generator , so no fun for me," Robert Stastiuk said.
Robert also helps out his 84 year-old neighbor who often struggles when there is a power outage. His neighbor Jim Hoffman relies on his own well pump for water, but without electricity, it doesn't work.
"We use it all the time except for when we don't have power, and then I have to go next door for water," Jim Hoffman said.
Jim also installed a new air conditioner a few days ago, but can't put it to use. Now he and his wife will have to stay home and hope for cool nights.
"Just sit down and relax. Not much you can do without electricity or water.. can't take a shower," he added.
