People are upset about the proposal for a 5000-head-hog farm in Concord Township on Litle Road. They're concerned about the smell, and health hazards that come with the manure being so close to their water sources.
In one meeting already this year, more than 50 people spoke against the proposal, and there's another slotted for next week.
But the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development says the proposal met the requirements needed. One of those was an odor management plan.
The core of that plan is the location, which is away from the road. Then, the owners are also planning to put it in trees, which should also reduce the smell to the nearby homes, according to MDARD.
But neighbors aren't so sure. They think it will still be dangerous, and will reduce property value. That's why they say they're going to fight it.
