Authorities say a pastor who found a break-in suspect inside his suburban Detroit church ended up detaining the man until sheriff's deputies arrived.
The Oakland County sheriff's department says it responded Monday morning to a report of a breaking-and-entering at Highland Hills Baptist Church in Highland Township. Deputies took a 22-year-old man into custody and found a large amount of cash in his pockets.
Pastor Mario Chadinha tells WXYZ-TV his son, who is an assistant pastor, helped him detain the man. Chadinha says he's "sorry that the young man chose to do this instead of asking for help."
The pastor says cash was missing from his desk drawer. The department says the suspect told a detective he had broken into the church twice before. The suspect was jailed, pending charges.
