EATON COUNTY, Mich. — A former pastor from Eaton County was in court Friday for a status conference.

However, nothing happened in court because his lawyer asked for an adjournment, stating he needs more time to look through all of the records in the case.

Douglas Hammond waived his arraignment on January 13.

Hammond is accused of embezzling more than $100,000 from his own church, Olivet First Assembly of God, from January 2014 until November of 2019.

Hammond's attorney told the judge he is not guilty.

Previously, Hammond said he was guilty.

His attorneys have requested his bond to be converted to a personal recognizance bond due to Hammond's health.

A member of his church told FOX 47 that Hammond has cerebral palsy.

Hammond is 67 years old and could face up to 20 years in prison.

His attorney also asked that Hammond be moved to “Life Challenges” in Canton.

However, Judge O'Neil denied the request stating medical records and proof of residency was not provided.

If Hammond is convicted, he could have to pay up to $50,000 in fines or three times what he's accused of taking.

His next court appearance will be on March 26 at 8:30 a.m.
