JACKSON, Mich. — A section of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive between Franklin and Wesley streets in Jackson will be closed to traffic starting Monday, July 29.

The street is closing so storm and sanitary sewer services for the Francis Senior Lofts can be connected to the sewer mains under the street, according to a press release.

The Francis Senior Lofts is an apartment development for senior citizens that is currently under construction on MLK Drive.

A detour will take drivers to Mechanic Street and Washington Avenue to get around this area.

Wesley Street will remain open for access to St. Mary's Catholic Church and School.

All drives to the Commonwealth Commerce Center will be open and accessible from Washington Avenue.

This section of MLK Drive is set to reopen in early August.
