Parking rates near Capitol up by 25 cents

You'll need an extra quarter to park at a meter in Downtown Lansing.

The rate has gone up, near the Capitol from $1.25 for an hour to $1.50.

Lansing officials say it's a reasonable rate increase. You'll also be seeing increases in other areas, ranging from 75 cents to $1.50.

They say most of the current parking meters are from 1997 and technology that is becoming obsolete needs to be replaced.

Lansing officials did test parking meters with credit card readers, but can't justify the cost of that investment based on the number of people who currently use meters.
