LANSING, Mich. — A federal judge is allowing a student group to join a lawsuit over the Williamston school district's transgender policy.
The "Williamston High School Gay-Straight Alliance" is now one of the defendants in the case.
A group of parents are suing the district and six board members over the policy.
They claim the policy violates their rights to free speech and religious freedom.
They also claim the policy discriminates against non-transgender students.
The school district has asked the judge to dismiss the case.
