BATH TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Parents in Bath are furious after football posters at the high school were vandalized at homecoming over the weekend.
After posters of players on the Bath High School football team were stolen and defaced, community members and school officials are wondering who would do such a thing.
"It's too bad when something like this happens, our teams and our school have a lot of pride," Matt Dodson, Bath high school principal, said.
Police and the school say the vandalism happened around 2 a.m. Sunday. The posters were found in dumpsters at a nearby apartment complex. Most were too damaged to hang back up.
"When someone takes advantage of, or destroys something that you worked so hard to get and put up as a point of pride for the school, it's very frustrating," Dodson said.
Police say there are five suspects between 15 and 30 years old. Dodson said none are currently affiliated with the high school.
"We're not okay with this, and we're going to hold those folks accountable," Dodson said.
Members of the Bath community are helping to find the posters and get them returned to their families. Some parents even setting up a gofundme to have them replaced.
"You have an immense pride in what you do, and you always want to project the best, even when you're not at your best. Being that some folks in the community didn't make the best choices, we want to rally around and get those posters back up and just show that poor choices like that are not going to not going to dim our day, and we're going to get right back at it and be great at what we do," Dodson said.
Dodson said he's meeting with police Wednesday and that they plan on punishing the suspects to the fullest extent of the law.
Parents have raised over $650 to help replace the posters.
