An 8 year old Ovid girl diagnosed with a rare form of cancer has died.

The Clinton County Sheriff's Office says Alexis Schueller passed away on Thursday morning.

"Alexis and her family had been adopted by our department last winter and participated in the Shop With a Cop program," said the Sheriff's Office in a statement.

"Alexis may be gone, but she will never be forgotten as she made a profound impact on the staff here. Rest easy sweetheart."

Schueller was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a rare form of cancer that most commonly affects young children.

Schueller was granted a trip to Disney World by the Make a Wish Foundation, but her condition worsened last May, and she was unable to go.

Instead the St. Johns High School Dance Team dressed in costumes and brought Disney to her hospital room.

“We do a tea party every spring where the girls dress up like princesses,” said coach Michelle Lindquist. “We had our tea party in March and everything had been washed and put up to storage and we just ran up there and pulled it all down and everyone got dressed.”

Clinton County Sheriff Lawrence Jerue says the department met Schueller during shop with a cop and the department instantly fell in love with her.

A gofundme account was set up to help Schueller's family pay for medical expenses.
