LANSING, Mich. — Some teachers and school employees could see smaller paychecks this fall and the reason is the ongoing budget battle between Governor Gretchen Whitmer and lawmakers.
More than 100 thousand K through 12 schools are effected.
According the Michigan Education Association, those districts have union contracts that haven't been settled.
As of Tuesday, the MEA says Bath and Mason school districts have unsettled deals.
The list also includes schools in Jackson County like Northwest, Grass lake, and Napoleon.
State law requires school budgets to be done by July, but schools don't know how much funding they'll have because the governor and the legislature haven't put together a budget.
The unsettled contracts will force some school employees to pay all premium increases on health insurance out of pocket.
A 2011 state law requires school employees to do that until a new agreement is reached.
