LANSING, Mich. — Sitting at your desk in a cool building might be one way to escape the sweltering heat, but those who work outdoors don't have that luxury.

Fox 47 went out on the road to find out how outdoor workers are beating the heat.

"What I do is I bring a cooler full of drinks I take as many breaks as I can go inside for a five to 10 minute break. Go sit in my car turn the a.c on. I have like six Gatorade two waters everyday and I'm constantly filling them up by the end of the day there's nothing left," Alex Downey, a groundskeeper, said.

Other workers mentioned that they start their day around 6 a.m. to avoid high heat times.

They also make sure to stay hydrated, take frequent breaks and wear light colored clothing
