LANSING, Mich. — There are opposing views on what should happen next at the shuttered Walnut Hills Country Club in Meridian Township.
Farmington Hills-based developer Steve Schafer said he met with Meridian Township officials last week about the project.
He hopes to turn the area into housing, but the Meridian Township manager said housing isn't what they were hoping for,
"If we had our way, Walnut Hills would be flourishing, we'd have a golf course and we'd be back to the way it was before," Meridian Township Manager Frank Walsh said. "Our job is to work with the owner, the owner of the property and make sure that his development does not encumber on the neighbors."
According to the developer, site plans have been turned into the township. The next scheduled meeting for the township board is Oct. 1.
The club has been the center of controversy starting with a legal battle with the developer who wanted
to rezone it for housing.
