LANSING, Mich. — Thomas Humphreys, CPCU, CLU, ChFC, CIC, director of the Risk Management and Insurance Center at Olivet College, will present “Impacts of Auto No-Fault Reform in Michigan” on Wednesday, March 25, 3-4 p.m. The presentation is open to all and will be held in Mott Auditorium, 320 S. Main St., Olivet.

Michigan’s auto no-fault insurance law was implemented in 1973. In 2019, the legislature made significant changes to the law in an effort to reduce the cost of auto insurance. Much of the law change will become effective on July 2, 2020. These changes provide many choices for policyholders that have profound effects on coverage. Humphreys will provide context to the changes and implications from the choices policyholders make. The presentation will be applicable to all, regardless of insurance carrier.

“The legislature changed the way that auto insurance will work in Michigan,” Humphreys said. “What this means is that everyone who has auto insurance in Michigan will have to elect which levels of coverage they would like. For example, in the past, auto insurance policies included unlimited medical coverage, but this change will allow people to select different levels. This presentation will help policyholders understand the new options, levels of coverage and premiums.

“The insurance and risk management program at Olivet College is nationally recognized. Having an outstanding program, we know that we can use our information and expertise to provide a community service by helping others better understand their policies and coverage. Insurance is a complex product, and it can be challenging to understand exactly what you’re buying. The deadline for the law change is rapidly approaching. Knowledge is power, so the more you learn and understand, the better decisions you will be able to make.”

Humphreys has a strong background in sales, management, finance, insurance regulation and law. He holds a Master of Business Administration and has nearly 31 years of experience in his field, 14 of those as an instructor. Humphreys holds licenses in the state of Michigan for Property and Casualty Producer, Property and Casualty Licensed Insurance Counselor, and Life, Accident and Health Producer.
