LANSING, Mich. — Olivet College is proud to announce its designation as a 2019-20 Gold-Level Veteran-Friendly School by the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency. The Michigan Veteran-Friendly Schools Program recognizes academic institutions committed to supporting the needs of veterans and military-connected students. These institutions are awarded gold-, silver- or bronze-level status based on their veteran-centric services and programs. As a gold-level school, Olivet College is renowned at the highest ranking level.

Institutions considered for the Veteran-Friendly School rankings are based on the following criteria: established process for identification of current student veterans; veteran-specific website; active student veteran organization or club; veteran-specific career services, resources, advising, and/or outcome monitoring; on-campus veterans’ coordinator and/or designated staff point of contact; system to evaluate and award academic credit based on prior military training and experience; and monitoring and evaluation of student veteran academic retention, progress and graduation rates. To rank at the gold level, colleges and universities must complete at least six of the categories.

Olivet College is one of 33 schools ranked at the gold level, and the only college in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association ranked at gold. Olivet has earned the gold ranking consecutively since 2017-18.

“The tremendous courage soldiers risk deserves our lasting gratitude. As our veterans return, it is our goal to align ourselves with the programs and support designed to help these men and women make the most of the educational opportunities Olivet College has to offer,” said Leslie Sullivan, registrar and VA certifying official. “What we receive in return from their experience can only be perceived as valuable.”

In addition, Olivet College was also announced as a 2020-21 Top 10 Gold-Level Military Friendly® School by Victory Media. OC ranked third in the category of private schools not offering a doctorate degree. Military Friendly® serves as a standard to measure an organization’s commitment, effort and success in creating sustainable and meaningful benefits for the military community. The Military Friendly® School list is specifically designed to equip veterans, dependents, active duty and other military personnel with the ability to easily and efficiently navigate their educational opportunities.
