Okemos Road, between Hamilton Road and Grand River Avenue and a small section of northbound Okemos Round south of Hamilton Road will be closed Thursday, July 25th, for maintenance paving.
The closures will happen between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Okemos Road
Southbound Okemos Road will be fully closed at Grand River Avenue and a detour will be posted directing all southbound Okemos Road traffic east on Grand River Avenue to Marsh Road, then south to Hamilton Road and then west back to Okemos Road.
Northbound Okemos Road at Hamilton Road will be closed to through traffic, which will also be directed by posted detour east on Hamilton to north on Marsh to west on Grand River Avenue back to Okemos Road.
A sign will also be posted for northbound Okemos Road at Hamilton Road that traffic seeking access to businesses on Okemos Road north of Hamilton may proceed north on Okemos Road and will be directed by a flagger at Methodist Street to their destination using a lane not occupied by work activity at the given time.
Flaggers will also be posted at both Meijer driveways on Okemos Road to direct any traffic seeking to access to businesses across from Meijer on Okemos Road.
Destinations on the east side of Okemos Road between Hamilton and Kent Street will also be accessible via Moore and Methodist Streets.
The work being performed this week is for interim road maintenance, only until larger projects occur as planned on Okemos Road between Mt. Hope Road and Grand River Avenue.
Those larger projects expected in 2021 include:
- Replacing the Okemos Road bridges over the Red Cedar River
- Reconstruct Okemos Road in relation to the Downtown Okemos Redevelopment Project (Village of Okemos)
- Drainage in the Okemos Road / Grand River Avenue area.
