OKEMOS, Mich. — The Okemos boys basketball team advancing in the state playoffs Thursday night.

They took down the DeWitt Panthers 39-34 to claim the regional title and move on to the state quarterfinals.

It's the first regional championship for the Chiefs since 2012.

"As fun as it is to win, it's even more fun to keep coaching these guys, just because they're so much fun, especially this group of seniors. We don't want to be done, so we're going to keep it going as long as we can, and hopefully have some exciting moments," said Okemos boys coach Jeff Wonch.

The Chiefs will face East Kentwood, who took down Hudsonville Thursday night. They'll play in Caledonia for a chance to come back to East Lansing and tip off at the Breslin Center.
