Two Detroit police officers were among several people recognized by the city for rescuing a pregnant woman from the Detroit River.
City officials say Tuesday was the first time Ethel Woodger has seen officers Brian Gadwell and Steven Rauser since they jumped into the cold water on April 17 southwest of downtown.
Gadwell and Rauser responded to a 911 call to find Woodger trying to hold onto a branch another man was dangling down to her.
Gadwell jumped in first. Rauser entered the river to help him.
An EMS worker also jumped in and the J.W. Westcott mail boat later arrived to help pull Woodger from the water. The city says Woodger fell into the river.
Woodger later delivered a son via cesarean section at a Detroit hospital.
