Law enforcement in Ingham County will get a life saving boost today in the fight against heroin and prescription drug abuse.
The "100 Women Who Care" charity will be donating almost $20,000 to the Mason Capital Area Prescription Drug Task Force this morning.
It's part of a life saving mission. The money will be used to distribute Narcan kits to law enforcement across Ingham County.
Narcan kits can stop an opioid overdose in its tracks.
Here in Mid-Michigan, the kits have become a big tool in the fight against heroin and prescription drug use.
Just this month, Eaton County Sheriff's deputies used Narcan to revive two drug overdose victims on July 9th.
The 100 Women Who Care will be providing those kits to departments for free. Ingham County area law enforcement will do their own training.
Lansing Police started carrying Narcan in January. It gives officers a chance to administer quicker treatment before paramedics arrive.
In 2014, there were 57 opioid-related deaths in Ingham County.
The women will donate the money at 9:30 a.m. at the Mason Police Department, dollars they say will literally save lives.
