A Lansing Township Police Officer is recovering after he was attacked by a dog Monday evening.

It happened just before 6:30 p.m on N. Hayford Avenue near Woodruff Avenue. Lansing Township Police Chief Adam Kline says the officer was responding to reports of two dogs running loose, one of which had bit a woman.

When he arrived on scene, the Officer was attacked by the larger of the two dogs. After getting bit in the forearm, he "shot the dog to fend off any further attack", according to Kline.

The officer was taken to Sparrow Hospital for minor injuries. The dog was transported to the MSU Veterinary Clinic for treatment. Kline did not provide an update on the condition of the dog.
