A kitten that worked its way up under a Jackson resident’s car is now safe, thanks to the quick thinking and actions of a Jackson police officer.

Deputy Chief Elmer Hitt stated that Officer Goings responded to the call, and then ran to the Dollar General to purchase a can of salmon. The officer was able to coax the kitten out from inside the vehicle.

"A citizen somehow learned this little kitten climbed under the vehicle, under the axle and got inside it," Hitt said.

The vehicle was in the parking lot of the Great Lakes care center in the 900 block of Cooper Street.

The kitten was taken to the Jackson County Animal Shelter.
