An Oakland County road now carries the names of two state troopers who died in 1992 when a train struck their patrol car.
A county road crew pulled fabric off the new sign Thursday to honor Trooper James DeLoach and Trooper Steven Niewiek. A section of Scott Lake Road in Waterford Township now is a memorial highway for the pair.
DeLoach and Niewiek had been troopers for only a few years when the fatal crash occurred 25 years ago. They were rushing to Clarkston to help another trooper. The patrol car exploded and was thrown 400 feet after hitting the train.
