North Korea says it tested hydrogen bomb

Posted

New claims from North Korea Sunday morning that the country successfully tested a hydrogen bomb for an intercontinental ballistic missile.

This comes after a strong earthquake was detected near Pyongyang's main nuclear test site today.

Pictures released on North Korea's state television claim to show leader Kim Jong Un signing a document to approve the test. Other images supposedly show him inspecting a hydrogen bomb at a nuclear lab.

North Korea is calling the test a success and the final step in attaining state nuclear force.

Before this latest incident North Korea was the focus of a phone call President Donald Trump made yesterday to Japan's Prime Minister. The White House says the two discussed ongoing efforts to maximize pressure on the county.

This marks the sixth time North Korea has conducted a nuclear test. In July it tested two missiles and experts say the tests indicated those could reach parts of the United States. That prompted President Trump to promise to take action if North Korea continued to threaten nuclear action against the US.

"North Korea best not make any more threats to the united states. They will be met with fire and fury like the world has never seen. He has been very threatening beyond a normal state," Trump said in August.

As of 7 am Sunday there was no official comment from the White House on the latest test. However South Korea's President is calling for "the most powerful punitive measures."
