Nonprofit organizations from across Michigan attended Legislative Day at the State Capitol Wednesday.
The event encourages members of the nonprofit sector to come out and speak to legislators and elected officials about issues that affect our communities. One of the hot button topics coming out of the talks, was the need to get a more complete and accurate count on the census in Michigan.
Joan Gustafson, External Affairs Officer with the Michigan Nonprofit Association, said, "Implementing those ballot issues is going to be so critical in terms of education and making people aware."
A more accurate census means the best possible chance for the state to get whatever amount of federal funding it may need to help fund resources in the communities.
That federal funding could affect anything from education programs to transportation programs.
