An agency that helps recovering addicts and the mentally ill get off the streets and back on their feet in Mid-Michigan needs help.

Pinnacle Recovery Services is a nonprofit housing program serving Ingham County that provides recovering addicts with safe and stable housing so the focus remains on recovery.

“Without that component they’ll keep returning back to the streets and returning to the jails and into the hospitals,” said Alina Branscombe, Co-Director of Pinnacle Recovery Services.

With two recovery homes open and constantly full, the need for more recovery homes like these is great.

To meet demand, the program is working to open another men's recovery home but need donations to help fill it.

From kitchen essentials you may not be using to an extra table you may have in the basement, it's the small things that help make houses like these a home.

“Donations are what we survive off of because we are not state funded,” said Branscombe. “Everything that we do comes from donations or comes from our personal bank accounts.”

Addicted to crack, meth and dealing with mental illness, there was a point Christine Danis hit rock bottom.

“I’m diabetic and I started injecting a whole bunch of insulin,” said Danis. “I asked god to forgive me, I texted my children and said goodbye, and I just said I can't do this anymore.”

Danis went into a coma.

She'd spend some time at a mental hospital before learning Pinnacle Recovery Services had a rare opening.

“I feel like I’m one of the lucky ones,” said Danis.

Danis says if it wasn’t for Pinnacle Recovery Services it’s possible she’d be dead.

“There is such a demand for these houses and there just happened to be an opening when I was looking,” said Danis.

“They deserve an opportunity to live the healthiest life, the most stable life, the happiest life that they can create from themselves,” said Teresa Stokes, Co-Director of Pinnacle Recovery Services. “They deserve that.”

Providing recovery services can be just as challenging as the addiction itself but its lives beginning again that make it all worth it.

“I went from not wanted to live to now I’m excited to live,” said Danis. “I have two jobs, I have a new family and my old family is coming back into my life.”
