New details Wednesday on the police investigation into the cryptic letters sent to dozens of Okemos High School alumni, staff and people in the surrounding area.

It's a story we told you about Tuesday after many people have been turning over these strange letters to the Meridian Township Police over the last week. This is what prompted the department to investigate into Okemos Public Schools.

The Meridian Township Police Department told FOX 47 News they are not going to arrest the man they believe sent the letters because it is not a crime.

According to a press release sent out by Meridian Township police, the man was located in St. Louis, Missouri with the help of their police department. Police also say he was recently in Mid-Michigan when they issued a felony warrant for "malicious destruction of property" for an incident that happened Friday evening in Meridian Township. That prompted the department to step up security at Okemos schools on Tuesday, fearing he may have still been in the area.

Meridian Township police aren't releasing details about the malicious destruction of property charge, but do tell us the victim(s) of the vandalism witnessed the man doing it. Police say the victim knew him and also received a note from him.

Whether or not to extradite him is up to the Ingham County prosecutors office. Meridian Township police say they won't be pushing for it. They told us they won't pursue the felony warrant as long as the man doesn't come back to Michigan. They also say the letters themselves were not threatening and do not constitute any sort of crime. Meridian Township police tell me they will not be back out at schools tomorrow, as they think the individual is now gone.
