The Jackson Co. Animal Shelter has closed their doors for cat intake.
The shelter announced on their Facebook page on Friday that no cats are allowed in or out of the shelter for two weeks.
This is due to a quarantine on a case of distemper.
Distemper is a virus in cats that is highly contagious and can be fatal.
There are multiple symptoms to look for:
Excessive sneezing
Runny nose
Discharge from eyes
Presumed headache
Fever
Dehydration
Loss of balance
Difficulty walking
Sudden onset of diarrhea
Vomiting
Refusal to eat
Lethargy
Depression
Reduced white blood cell count
We'll keep you posted when the quarantine is lifted.
