The next Speaker of the State House is from mid-Michigan.
Republican Tom Leonard of DeWitt was chosen by his fellow representatives on Thursday.
Leonard is just finishing his second term in the house. The 35-year-old chairs the Insurance Committee. He was an Assistant State Attorney General and a Prosecutor in Genesee County before elected in 2012.
Current speaker Kevin Cotter is term-limited.
