Parents, there's a new trend in town that teens can't seem to resist and it may be hidden in plain sight.

It's called a JUUL.

Erika Edwards explains the dangers of JUULING and what parents and teachers need to look out for.

It's a JUUL, and if you've never heard of it, just ask a teenager.

Emily Linskey, 18 years old told NBC News, "I see a lot of kids doing it. It's a lot in the bathrooms."

JUUL is a vaping device that is increasingly popular for its high-tech appearance, ability to hide in plain sight, and can be used without any telltale odor.

Matthew Myers, President for Campaign For Tobacco-Free Kids said, "It has spread like wildfire across our high schools with parents and teachers not recognizing that it's even going on."

But here's what kids fail to recognize, JUUL pods contain extremely high levels of nicotine.

"It delivers so much nicotine so rapidly, it dramatically increases the risk that a kid who experiments with this product will become addicted and then potentially go on to smoke cigarettes," said Myers.

The non-profit group, Truth Initiative, surveyed more than a thousand teenagers.

63% were unaware that JUULING always delivers nicotine and a lot of it.

One JUUL pod contains as much nicotine as a full pack of cigarettes.

JUUL Labs say it "strongly condemns the use of its products by minors."   They say they are working with school districts across the country to control the problem.
