New study says Asian Carp could travel beyond Lake Michigan

LANSING, Mich. — A new study says that if Asian Carp reach Lake Michigan--they'd probably have enough food to travel even farther.

Experts have previously questioned whether there's enough plankton in Lake Michigan to sustain the invasive fish, but University of Michigan scientists say the Asian Carp could feed on mussle excrement and other organic material when traveling into deeper waters.

The invasive fish have infested the Mississippi River and several tributaries.

There's been a long debate of how to keep them out of the Great Lakes where fishing is a $7 billion industry.
