New state measures would allow more employees to carry, administer anti-overdose drugs

Legislation nearing Governor Gretchen Whitmer's desk would allow more people in the work place to carry and administer anti-overdose drugs.

The State Senate unanimously passed bills on Wednesday that would allow any public employee to carry Naloxone, which is commonly sold under the brand name Narcan.

Right now. only law enforcement. first responders, and schools can use Narcan.

The legislation would also would protect trained employees who administer Narcan from being sued if something goes wrong.

The bills now go to the full House for review.
