Uber, Lyft and other ride-sharing services are now required to run criminal background checks in Michigan.

A new state law regulating the industry took effect on Tuesday.

Drivers have to be 19-year-old, have a valid driver's license and have no more than four moving violations in the last three years.

People on the sex offender registry are banned.

The same goes for anyone with a felony conviction in the last five years.
