A $77 million residential and retail development is planned northwest of downtown Detroit and within blocks of a new professional sports arena.
Mayor Mike Duggan says Thursday that the Midtown West project will help meet an increased demand for housing in Detroit.
PDH Development Group will buy the 7-acre site from the city for $1.8 million.
Midtown West will have 175 rental units and 160 units for sale.
More than half of the 200 temporary construction-related jobs will go to Detroit residents. Work is expected to start next year.
The development is the latest in the area. Little Caesar's Arena is scheduled to open later this year just north of downtown. It will be home to the NHL's Detroit Red Wings and NBA's Detroit Pistons.
