New poll shows East Lansing's income tax plan isn't likely to pass

A recent poll conducted by the Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce reveals the East Lansing income tax proposal is not a big hit with voters.

The East Lansing City Council voted recently to put a measure on the November ballot that would tax residents 1% of their income. Non- residents who work in the city, would be taxed .5%.

In light of the recent poll, President and CEO of Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce Tim Daman, said, "We've asked the city of East Lansing to withdraw the ballot proposal from the November Election, we think finding and continuing to look at other opportunities to address some of the challenges that they're faced is a more appropriate step at this point in time."

The request comes after the results of the Chamber poll show just 41% of East Lansing voters are in favor of the proposal. It strongly suggests the income tax plan has little chance of being approved.
