EAST LANSING, Mich. —
The man picked to be the next president of Michigan State University says healing is underway on campus following the Larry Nassar scandal.

However, Dr. Samuel Stanley tells the Associated Press he knows addressing the fallout of the scandal will be a critical part of his new job.

Stanley served for nearly a decade at Stony Brook University in New York.

He says he thought carefully about the situation at MSU before he took the job.

Dr. Stanley's first day at MSU is set for August 1.
