New fire chief appointed for the city of Lansing

The office of Mayor Andy Schor names new Interim Fire Chief for Lansing.

Schor appointed David J. Purchase to begin his new role starting on July 1.

Chief Randall Talifarro, who serves as joint Chief for Lansing and East Lansing, will end his duties in Lansing on June 30, and return to being the full-time fire chief for East Lansing as of July 1.

Purchase has served a total of 38 years in the fire service.

Purchase has been recognized as State Firefighter of the Year, Fire Service Instructor of the Year presented by the Michigan Fire Service Instructors Association and the Michigan Association Fire Chiefs, Fire Chief of The Year.

“Chief Purchase has tremendous experience throughout his career as a firefighter and fire chief. The City of Lansing is thrilled to have him as the leader for our Fire Department during this time of transition,” said Mayor Andy Schor.
