The state senate overwhelmingly approved a bi-partisan group of house bills on domestic violence Thursday.
Representative Kurt Heise says the main goal of the 7-bill package was to update existing domestic violence laws --- to allow better protection for victims.
One of the bills updates the Child Custody Act- which prevents a parent who is protecting themselves or a child from an assault from being considered a negative factor in child custody cases.
The legislation will return to the house for a possible concurrence vote.
