LANSING, Mich. — Early Monday morning, General Motors announced that the 2020 Cadillac CT5 will be built in Lansing.
GM is saying that this car will compete with the likes of the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class.
It will be powered by a turbocharged engine and GM's 10-speed automatic transmission.
They are also offering it in a base model (Luxury), Premium Luxury and Sport.
Cadillac says that the “CT5 showcases Cadillac’s unique expertise in crafting American performance sedans, with details designed to elevate every drive.”
The CT5 will replace the CTs and ATs sedans currently built at the Grand River plant in Lansing.
"The people here are amazing and they're obviously very excited about being able to share with the community and their families what we've been working on for the last several months in the pre-production aspect of this brand-new vehicle," said Darci Marcum, the plant's new director.
GM says the vehicle will debut at the New York International Auto Show and be built at the Lansing Grand River plant.
That production is made possible by a $211 million investment.
The Grand River plant will continue to build the Chevy Camaro.
The Delta Township plant builds the Buick Enclave and Chevy Traverse.
GM also is putting $36 million into the Delta Township plant for a future crossover but hasn't said which one.
