It's tick season and the awareness for illnesses like Lyme disease is growing.
Today the House of Representatives Health Policy Committee met to introduce several bills that will help those who suffer from the disease.
State Representative Karen Whitsett, (D) Detroit and Dearborn, who also has the disease introduced the bill that will push for insurance to cover proper testing for Lyme disease.
Another bill will bring better resources to Michigan that will help prevent, diagnose and treat the illness.
"This bill will allow doctors to not be able to diagnose them properly do the proper testing and be able to treat them according to the standards in which they feel they should be treated," said State Representative Whitsett.
Whitsett also says that right now there are over 300 people in Michigan undiagnosed who suffer from Lyme disease.
She currently has to go out of state for treatment and if these bills pass her, as well as others who suffer will be able to get the help they need in Michigan.
The introduced bills are still with House Committee and are in the process of being reviewed.
