A new bill introduced in the state house would close a loophole that allows people who can't buy guns to rent them.
The legislation would require that anyone who rents a gun go through the same FBI background check they would go through if they were buying one.
Right now there are no laws requiring background checks for renting a guns.
This bill comes after a murder in Lansing in March.
A man shot his ex-girlfriend with a gun he had stolen from a shooting range.
Timothy Olin rented the semi-automatic handgun that was used from total firearms in mason.
He used that gun to kill both Rachael Duncan and himself.
