Attacking a first responder would be considered a hate crime under a bill that will soon be introduced in the state senate.
Grand Ledge Senator Rick Jones is sponsoring the bill.
Under the bill, a person who commits or attempts to commit a felony where the victim is targeted because they're a police officer, EMT, or firefighter would serve up to two years in prison if found guilty.
The bill will be introduced tomorrow.
We'll let you know if it comes up for a vote.
