LANSING, Mich. — The State of Michigan is going to be working with both the U.S. and Michigan Humane Societies to shut down puppy mills in the state.
Michigan's Attorney General's office has received nearly 20 complaints of puppy scams since 2017.
It is reported that U.S. consumers spend at least one-billion dollars each year without knowing that they may be buying their dog from a dog scammer or puppy mill operator
Both of these illegal operations often do not deliver the same dogs to potential owners as were promised.
This often leaves owners with huge veterinary bills.
Another popular scam consumers face include that taking of money for dogs that do not exist.
The attorney general's office will formally announce the partnership with the national and state chapters of the Humane Society Thursday.
