They're calling it a double standard over the height of the grass.

FOX 47 has heard from several viewers recently who aren't happy that Jackson isn't getting vacant lots and cemeteries mowed.

FOX 47's Alani Letang went to work for you.

Jake Haller is so sick of a trashy-looking lot in his neighborhood that he went and did the city's job for it.

The city said it's doing it's best to keep up.

"It shouldn't have to look so bad all the time," said Jake Haller, Jackson leaves near the unmowed lot.

This is the sound neighbors tell me they don't hear enough when it comes to this city-owned vacant lot at 233 Mason St.

"I feel unhappy because these litters make it look even worse," said Amerah Kaaied, lives near the unmowed lot.

Haller who lives next door to the lot has mowed the lot before. He told Letang he called four times last year to complain before he ended up mowing it himself.

"I do it just because I don't like it looking that bad next door and I don't like all the trash that blows into my driveway and into the corner of the lot, so I try to take care of it when I can," said Haller.

Neighbors are even more frustrated because the city will mow their lawns and bill them for it if their grass gets too long.

City officials told Letang that the notices they give out are complaint-based, they do not go out looking for unmowed lawns.

The Jackson Finance office told us the city-owned lots aren't being ignored. They said crews just haven't gotten to them yet.

The 700-plus properties are split into two groups for 3 different contractors to mow. The lot on Mason St. is on the second list and is supposed to be done by May 28th.

But it's not just grass people are complaining about.

Haller said, "I've seen clothing articles glass, other people walk their dogs and don't pick up after them. It's just not safe being that tall either you can't tell what's in there, kids are running through."

The city also blames the rain for slowing down the mowing process.

A FOX 47 viewer has also reached out upset about Woodland Cemetery being overgrown.
That area was mowed Monday.
